What Does A Behavior Technician and Medical Office Professional Do?

A Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) works in clinical settings under the supervision of Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) to provide treatment plans for patients like autistic children or developmentally disabled adults. The field is focused on science and human behavior and how to alleviate problematic behaviors in individuals. Behavior Technicians may also work in schools or home settings to assist patients in reducing problematic behaviors or learning daily living skills.

Where Does A Behavior Technician and Medical Office Professional Work?

A Behavior Technician and a Medical Office Professional both work within the healthcare field but in different capacities. Behavior Technicians, or Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), provide support and implement treatment plans for individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral challenges. They often work in autism treatment centers, schools, home-based therapy settings, or community-based settings. On the other hand, Medical Office Professionals, also known as Medical Administrative Assistants, ensure smooth administrative operations within medical settings, such as private medical practices, hospitals, outpatient care facilities, or long-term care facilities. While both roles are essential for providing efficient healthcare services, they operate in distinct environments and have different responsibilities.

Outcomes

Earning the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) certification opens doors for you to expand your career into medical offices, hospitals, clinics and more. With medical front office administration training, you will be able to understand medical terminology and have a better understanding of the diagnosis of your patients.

You’ll encounter a variety of individuals in the healthcare industry and having training in professionalism in allied health will prepare you to handle any situation that comes your way. Each customer, patient, or client is critical no matter where you work, and no organization can afford to overlook or neglect the power of customer service skills.

In order to become a fully certified Registered Behavior Technician, you will be required to complete a 40-hour training before being eligible to take the RBT exam. After passing the exam, you’ll be qualified for direct contact with patients and a number of Behavior Technician related jobs. Earning both the RBT and CMAA national certifications demonstrate your expertise in ensuring the proper treatment of your patients, performing important tasks in doctor’s offices, hospitals, clinics and other healthcare settings, and providing excellent customer service.

*PLEASE NOTE: This training program is based on the Registered Behavior Technician Task List (2nd ed.) and is designed to meet the 40-hour training requirement for RBT credential. The program is offered independent of the BACB.

There are additional requirements (outside of training and examination) mandated by the BACB for those on the path to earning the RBT designation. Visit www.bacb.com/rbt for more information.
