What Does A Behavior Technician Specialist Do?

A Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) works in clinical settings under the supervision of Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) to provide treatment plans for patients like autistic children or developmentally disabled adults. The field is focused on science and human behavior and how to alleviate problematic behaviors in individuals. RBTs may also work in schools or home settings to assist patients in reducing problematic behaviors or learning daily living skills.

Where Does A Behavior Technician Specialist Work?

A Behavior Technician Specialist, often referred to as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) or Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapist, works in various settings to provide support and implement behavior intervention plans for individuals with autism spectrum disorder, developmental disabilities, or other behavioral challenges. These settings may include autism treatment centers, private ABA therapy practices, special education schools, group homes, community-based programs, and sometimes clients’ own homes. Behavior Technician Specialists may also work for public or private healthcare organizations, non-profit organizations, or educational institutions, collaborating closely with Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), psychologists, and other healthcare professionals to help improve clients’ behavioral, social, and communication skills. In some cases, these professionals may provide services through telehealth platforms, offering remote support and therapy to clients and their families.

BEHAVIOR TECHNICIAN SPECIALIST

Outcomes

If you have a love of psychology and behavioral health, a behavior technician role provides a good balance of both. Our Behavior Technician Specialist certification program sets you up to begin your career with the skills to thrive and earn your credentials as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT).

Through the MedCerts RBT program, you will learn a series of documentation and protocol rules and regulations that have to be adhered to, not only for thorough records but also according to the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) guidelines and HIPAA regulations. You will study a list of subjects written by a licensed BCBA-D (Board Certified Behavior Analyst – Doctorate) and BCBA in order to learn the material needed to test and pass the BACB RBT Certification exam. Both of these are extremely important – this course is offered as part of the RBT training and should be understood prior to taking the BACB examination for the RBT certificate.

You’ll encounter a variety of individuals in the healthcare industry and having training in Professionalism in Allied Health will prepare you to handle any situation that comes your way. Each customer, patient, or client is critical no matter where you work, and no organization can afford to overlook or neglect the power of customer service skills.

In order to become a fully certified Registered Behavior Technician, you will be required to complete a 40-hour training before being eligible to take the RBT exam. After passing the exam, you’ll be qualified for a number of Behavior Technician related jobs and be responsible for direct contact with patients in various settings. Earning the RBT certification demonstrates your expertise in ensuring the proper treatment of your patients and providing excellent customer service.
