What Does A EKG Technician Do?

EKG technicians operate and monitor electrocardiogram (EKG) equipment for patients during diagnostic tests. EKG technicians can work in hospitals, long-term care facilities, or private practices, and they’re often stationed in a dedicated room with EKG equipment.

An EKG technician explains how the test works and what the patient can expect. At times, they may need to calm anxious patients so test results are accurate. Next, the EKG technician positions the patient, attaches electrodes to their skin in the proper locations and monitors blood pressure and heart activity during the test.

Once the test is complete, the EKG technician takes the results to a physician, who interprets the data and draws conclusions. They may also be responsible for transcribing the doctor’s notes for medical records, maintaining EKG equipment, and any inventory needed for testing.

Where Does A EKG Technician Work?

EKG technicians work in various settings, including hospitals, heart centers, and private practice offices.
